A population of more than 80 million inhabitants
belongs to the eight linguistic groups: Viet-Muong, Tay - Thai, Mon - Khmer,
Mong-Dzao, KaDai, Austronesian, Sino - Tibetan and Tibéto - Burmese, influenced
by two great cultures: Chinese and Indian.
All the ethnic groups are characterized by their origins,
their languages, their costumes and their religions. Through a long history,
they consider the others on the territory the brothers of the same mother. The
Viet (or Kinh) live in the deltas and on the coasts which are also the major
ones by more than 80% of the population. The 53 minority ones live in the high
mountains of the Northern, along Truong Son chain, in the high plateaux of the
Central and in the Mekong delta forming an interesting mosaic.
