Timetable All the State offices are open 8 hours per day, from 7h30 to 16h30 (one hour of pause at noon) and from Monday to Friday, closed the weekend. In the provinces, the working day can last the morning from 7h to 11h, and the afternoon from 13h to 17h. The banks can begin their workingday from 7h30 or 8h and finish it at 15h30. All the banks are closed Saturday afternoon. No museum is open Monday. The private shops are open rather late : 8h or 8h30, but closed at 20h or 21h.
Sunday all the establishments are closed. 8 public holidays per year : 01 January: New Year (01 day)
30 April: Anniversary of the Reunification of Vietnam (01 day)
01 May: International Labour day (01 day)
02 September: National day of the Socialist republic of Vietnam (01 day)
Tet (New lunar Year): has place between the 1st day and the 7er day of the 1st lunar month (between the end of January and the beginning of February)
Vietnamese language is of Chinese origin, it is the official language. Many ethnic minorities preserve their own languages and dialects. Monosyllabic, invariable to six tone. Thus the same syllable can be affected six tone different and that it takes six different significances then. In the large cities: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh city, Hue and Danang, the foreign languages: English, French, Chinese is used largely in trade and tourism.
The travellers coming from Europe are not forced to make vaccinations at the entry of the Vietnamese territory. We advise you to be up to date "universal" vaccinations: tetanus, polio, diphteria and hepatitis B, typhoid fever. If you participate in an off the beaten tracks on the Tonkin Highland or Central Highland, the antipaludism medicine will be necessary.
